Berlin: Hoffenheim maintained their unbeaten record in the German Bundesliga this season after a 0-0 draw away to Eintracht Frankfurt in a spiky encounter at the Commerzbank Arena on Friday.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side have won six and drawn eight of their 14 league games this season and remain fourth in the table, above Eintracht on goal difference and a point behind Hertha Berlin, who host Werder Bremen on Saturday evening.

Eintracht, who finished the game with 10 men after Timothy Chandler was sent off late on, are on an impressive run themselves and have now gone eight matches without losing.

Hoffenheim’s achievements under their 29-year-old coach Nagelsmann have been overshadowed by RB Leipzig, whose own unbeaten start to the campaign sees them sit top of the table, three points clear of defending champions Bayern Munich.

Nagelsmann’s young side had beaten Cologne 4-0 in their last outing but could not break down a mean Frankfurt defence in a game of few chances.

Alexander Meier twice forced saves from Oliver Baumann in the first half while Benjamin Huebner found the net with a header for the visitors on the stroke of half-time only to be denied by the offside flag.

This game, though, will be best remembered for a shocking elbow by Frankfurt defender David Abraham on Sandro Wagner that went unpunished.

In contrast, United States international Chandler was sent off eight minutes from time for putting a hand around the neck of Wagner when a brawl ensued after Bastian Oczipka and Mark Uth clashed.

In Malaga, Spain, Granada held Malaga 1-1, ending the hosts’ home winning streak at six matches and garnering what could be a crucial point in the fight to avoid La Liga football relegation.

The visitors looked the better side in the opening minutes here on Friday, but it was Malaga who drew first blood with Ignacio Camacho’s goal off a header in the 24th minute.

Granada goalkeeper Ochoa made a spectacular stop minutes later against Mikel Villanueva to keep Malaga from doubling their lead.

The visiting side nearly equalised early in the second half, but a header by Kravets hit the post.

The advantage shifted to Malaga as the period wore on and Juan Carlos forced another big save from Ochoa to keep the match within reach.

Malaga thought they had done enough when a ball from Sandro found the back of the net, only to see the goal disallowed on an offside violation.

A fading Granada finally pulled level in the 81st minute, thanks to another Kravets header, spurring a furious charge by Malaga to rescue the victory.

Ochoa shined again with a stop against Diego Llorente, who then saw his goal in stoppage time called back for yet another offside.

The draw leaves Malaga with 21 points from 15 matches and a provisional hold on eighth place in La Liga. Granada has 9 points and sits in 19th.
