Dubai: Boxing in the UAE will get a big boost on Friday as Maitha Al Neyadi from the UAE takes on India’s Karika Shiv Kumar in the flyweight category in the first Dubai Women’s Arab Boxing Championships at Dubai Aviation Club.

Gates will open at 6pm and the first of the nine bouts is scheduled for 7pm. The event is organised by the Arab International Boxing Federation (IABF) in coordination with the Dubai Sports Council (DSC).

Emirati Al Neyadi’s bout with the experienced Indian will be her first professional fight.

In other interesting encounters, Samira Hamham of Morocco will be up against Malinka Marija of Croatia in the featherweight category, while Maria Rodriguez of Spain will face Farah Diab of Tunisia in the above lightweight 63kg class.

The first boxing championships exclusively for women has brought together 18 boxers from 16 Arab and European countries.
