Dubai: The Dubai Sports Council’s (DSC) Ranking System for sports events has received an initial positive response from organisers.

The ‘Ranking System’ was launched to enhance levels of sports events organisation and to ensure that these events conform to ‘Strategy 2021’ laid down by the Government of Dubai. The DSC then held a workshop for event organisers in the first half of June this year and some of these organisers have already confirmed their adherence to the Ranking System that comes into effect from September 1 (today).

There are more than 100 event organisers operating in the UAE, conducting in excess of 300 sporting events annually under the aegis of the DSC. All these, either high or medium impact events, will now come under the purview of the DSC’s ‘Ranking System’ as per the criteria laid down.

The ongoing second leg of the Fina/Mastbank Swimming World Cup was chosen as a test event, while this weekend’s ‘Pinoy Pride in Dubai’ at the Dubai World Trade Centre will become the first official sports competition under the ranking system.

“This is an exciting time for us at the DSC as we pursue the goals set before us by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. He always wants Dubai to be number one and this is exactly what we are doing by becoming the first-ever sports entity in the world to have such an advanced Ranking System’,” explained Nasser Al Rahma, Director, Sports Events, DSC.

“This is just the start and we call on all sports event companies to come forward and register their events with us. We have made a good start as we endorse six high impact events during September itself. The response has been positive and we are hopeful of ironing out any deficiencies the system may have over a period of time,” noted Hessa Al Kous, Sports Events Planning Manager, DSC.

“The Ranking System is meant to be a developmental tool to improve the services in the sports sector and will be centred around five core values of management, finance, logistics, technology and women in sport,” she explained.

The first year of the Ranking System will come into effect from today and go on till August 31, 2015. All information about this new venture can be obtained at www.sers.ae.
