Michael has consolidated his status as the world’s number one player with his successes in recent years, including an incredible 18 tournament victories during 2015.
The Dutch hero shot to prominence as a teenage starlet, but his 2012 World Grand Prix victory has sparked a run which has seen Van Gerwen claim victory in each of the PDC’s major ranking titles in a remarkable run.
He has also translated that success on to the World Series of Darts stage and entered 2016 unbeaten in the three-year history of the Dubai Duty Free Darts Masters after picking up a treble of wins in that event to accompany his 2014 success in Singapore.
Van Gerwen ended 2015 by winning four successive televised tournaments during October and November, and kicked off this year by retaining his Masters title, confirming his status as the hottest property in darts. He then clinched his second Premier League title with a 11-3 hammering of Phil Taylor in the final at the London O2 Arena in May.
