Al Ain: Welkin emerged as the champions of the first Al Faraa Ramadan Twenty 20 tournament organised by Al Ain Sportsplex at their newly laid out wicket.

Al Ain Sportsplex officials, who are on a mission to promote cricket in this region by creating more tournaments, are delighted with their first tournament success. The event was held under the aegis of the Al Ain Cricket Council, with Welkin recording an emphatic 10-wicket win over KPK team in the final.

It was a day when everything went wrong for the KPK team except the toss. Their decision to bat first also proved disastrous as they folded up for a measly 79. Man of the Match Mohammad Aayaz picked up three quick wickets to reduce KPK to 34 for 5. Faiz Ahmad too struck a couple of blows down the order to wrap up the KKP innings for a mediocre 79 runs. Except for Shahid Khan, who hit 21 runs and Khan Gilani (16 n..o), no one rose to the challenge.

In reply, Welkin openers Abdul Shakoor and Waleed Sajjad mopped up the required runs in just 11 overs. Abdul Shakoor was in an aggressive mood as he hit two towering sixes and four boundaries on way to scoring 53 not out off just 26 balls. Waleed hit a sedate 23 not out off 26 balls.

The winners and runners-up were awarded with medals and trophies and cash prizes by the sponsors and chief guests — Hiren Kansara, vice-president of Finance at the Al Faraa Group, and Mohammad Ali, managing director of Right General Trading LLC — Phantomskinz.
