Sharjah: Pakistan A pulled off a sensational 153-run victory over Australia in the four-day match that ended at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Left-arm spinner Raza Hasan and right-arm medium pacer Mohammad Talha bagged three wickets each to bowl Australia out for a paltry 185 in the second innings as they were chasing 338 to win.

Opener Phillip Hughes’ fighting 65 from 107 balls with eight boundaries and a six and Peter Siddle’s 41 off 65 balls with five boundaries and two maximums went in vain.

Left-arm medium pacer Rahat Ali set the tempo by taking two early wickets, including that of skipper Michael Clarke, to put Pakistan on the path to victory after they declared their second innings at the overnight score of 306 for three.

Australia got off to shaky start when opener Chris Rogers, attempting to take a run off an overthrow from the last ball of the first over, got run out for three.

Clarke began by hitting the third ball of the second over from Imran Khan to the boundary, but got out to the first ball of the third over. Clarke, who was looking for a long stay following his six-week lay-off due to injury, was clean bowled by Rahat for five. Glenn Maxwell hit a quick 18 runs before slashing at medium pacer Mohammad Talha and was caught behind.

Hughes went for his shots and, along with Mitchell Marsh, steadied the innings. At lunch, Australia were 110 for three.

The pair put on 68 for the fourth wicket until Hasan made Marsh edge into the hands of Asad Shafiq at slip for 35.

James Faulkner fell to the next ball from Hasan, when he edged to Ahmad Shehzad at second slip.

Siddle kept out the hat-trick ball, but a well set Hughes then fell to Rahat, who forced Hughes to edge him to wicketkeeper Adnan Akmal.

Siddle and Mitchell Starc took the score to 153, but medium pacer Imran Khan clean bowled the latter for 11.

Trailing by 186 runs and with only three wickets in hand, the pressure mounted on Australia. Siddle held on with Steve O’Keefe for a while and Siddle hit Imran for a six over square leg. He also hit Hasan for two boundaries in the 45th over.

Talha picked up his second wicket by trapping O’Keefe leg before for two.

Siddle fell nine short of his half century when edging Hasan into the gloves of wicketkeeper Akmal. Talha then yorked Ben Hilfenhaus to ensure a big win for his team.
