**England and Sri Lanka became the fourth and fifth team to have played 70 World Cup matches. Australia, with 78, have played the most followed by NZ with 74 and Ind, Eng & SL tied on 70.

**England posted their eighth 300 plus score in WC matches. It was also their second consecutive 300 plus score in WC games. They had scored 303-8 vs Scotland (23-2-2015)

** It was the second time in WC matches that England had posted a 300 plus score and lost a game. The only other time was in the 2011 edition where they posted 327-8 vs Ireland and yet lost.

** It must also be noted in the 2011 WC, Eng posted 338-8 against Sri Lanka but were only able to “tie” the match.

** Joe Root registered his 4th ODI hundred, and second vs SL. Root is playing his first World Cup.

** Root (121) posted his highest ever score in ODIs. His previous highest was 113 vs India at Headingly (5-9-2014)

** All Roots previous 3 centuries ended up in wins for England.

** The fifth wicket partnership of 98 between Taylor-Root is now the best for England for the 5th wicket in WC matches. The previous best was 89* by Mike Denness & Chris Old vs India at Lord’s in 1979.

** Sangakkara (117*) registered his 23rd ODI century and second consecutive one as well. It was his sixth hundred in chasing a target.

** Thirimanne (139*) registered the 4th ODI hundred of his career. It is now the highest score of his ODI career bettering his 102* vs Australia at Adelaide (13-1-2013).

** All four of Thiramanne centuries so far have ended in wins for Sri Lanka and have all come away from home.

** The 212-run unbeaten partnership between Thiramanne and Sangakkara is now their third highest for any wicket in WC matches. The highest remains 282 by Tharanga at Dilshan vs Zim at Pallakelle in 2011.

** Interestingly, Sangakkara has remained not out the in the last three centuries he scored. They were 113* vs NZ at Wellington (29-1-2015), 105* vs Ban at Melbourne (26-2-2015) and 117 not out today.

** It was only the 6th time a target of 300 plus was successfully chased down in a WC match. Sri Lanka have done so twice now. Their first time also was in Australia in 1992, where they made 313-7 in response to Zimbabwe’s total of 312-4.

**It is also only the second time in ODI history that a total of 300 has been successfully chased down with 9 wickets intact. The only other instance being when India 362-1 chased Australia’s 359-5 at Jaipur (16-10-2013)

** Joe Root (121) at 24 years 61 days is now the youngest English batsman to score a WC 100, while Lahiru Thirimanne (139*) at 25 years 174 days is the youngest Sri Lankan to score a WC 100.
