New Delhi: An incisive display of pace bowling led by Mitchell Starc saw Royal Challengers Bangalore thrash Delhi Daredevils by 10 wickets at the Ferozeshah Kotla in the Indian Premier League on Sunday.
RCB bowled out the home team for just 95 in 18.2 overs and then cruised home in just 10.3 overs with the bat to register a comprehensive victory.
With the victory, RCB took fourth spot in the standings with six points from six matches, just a rung above Delhi who have played a game more.
Burly West Indian opener Chris Gayle (62 not out) made the chase look easy.
He was in his element from ball one, thumping the bowlers to all corners of the park, ably supported by skipper Virat Kohli (35 not out).
The dashing duo didn’t give a flicker of hope to the Delhi bowlers as the victory came with 57 balls to spare.
Earlier, a brilliant bowling performance from RCB helped them skittle out the Daredevils.
It was a good toss to win for Kohli whose decision to field was backed his bowlers.
Pace spearhead Starc was clinical, finishing with superb figures of 4-0-20-3, while fast bowling partner Varun Aaron (2/24) and South African medium pacer David Wiese (2/18) also chipped in.
Medium pacer Harshal Patel (1/14) and slow left-arm spinner Iqbal Abdullah (1/17) also came to the party.
So poor was the Daredevils batting that only three batsmen — Mayank Agarwal (27), captain J.P. Duminy (13) and wicketkeeper-batsman Kedar Jadhav (33) — reached double digits.
Only Jadhav’s strike rate was above a run a ball, coming off 29 balls with four fours.
