Mumbai: New Zealand pacer Mitchell McClenaghan has replaced injured Jason Behrendorff in the Mumbai Indians squad for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), it was announced on Monday.

Australian Behrendorff is suffering from a back problem and has been ruled out of the Twenty20 cricket tournament, according to a statement.

“In accordance with the Player Regulations, the Mumbai Indians were allowed to choose a replacement from the Registered and Available Player Pool (RAPP),” IPL said after the tournament’s Technical Committee approved the replacement.

Three-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians picked left-arm pacer McClenaghan at his base price of Rs10 million.

The 31-year-old was part of Mumbai Indians squads which won in 2013, 2015 and 2017.

Two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders, meanwhile, Tuesday joined hands with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for a first of its kind Under-16 tournament.

Conducted in honour of the Kolkata Mayor, the Mayor’s Cup in association with KKR; the tournament started last week and featured 44 school teams competing against each other in the 45-over format of the game.

The objective of this tournament is to provide young cricketing talent in the city a platform to showcase their capabilities.

“KKR has always received a lot of love and support from its fans and the city of Kolkata, for which we are very grateful. KKR’s vision for this tournament is to encourage and develop young talent in Kolkata and West Bengal,” KKR CEO Venky Mysore said.
