Dubai: Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was fined 10 per cent of his match fee for an ‘inappropriate’ comment about the umpiring during his side’s IPL play-off defeat to Mumbai Indians on Tuesday night.

After the two-time champions were beaten by 25 runs, the India skipper described Richard Illingworth’s controversial decision to give Dwayne Smith out leg before wicket in the first over of Chennai’s innings as ‘horrible’.

Dhoni admitted the Level 1 offence and accepted the sanction, the league said in a statement.

Mumbai will now play in Sunday’s final, while the Super Kings will meet the winner of Wednesday’s Eliminator match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals in the final qualifier on Friday.

Here's how Smith reacted alongside Dhoni when he saw the replay...
