Dubai. Centre for Sports Science (CSS), which was earlier known as Sri Ramachandra Arthroscopy and Sports Science Centre and have earned international recognition as India’s only corrective centre for bowlers with suspect action, has now launched a cricket coaching centre in Chennai.

They have roped in one of the world’s renowned coaches Dav Whatmore to mentor teams and young talents and transform them into international stars.

The launch of the coaching centre, which will be known as ‘Trucoach-CSS Whatmore Centre for Cricket’ was announced by VR Venkatachaalam, the chancellor of the Sri Ramachandra University through a colourful function in the presence of former Indian wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani.

Sri Ramachandra University which is among India’s top 10 medical institutes has developed CSS with the singular vision to promote Sports Excellence to its highest level. Trucoach-CSS Whatmore Centre will seek to blend the technique of the game with the latest sports science and medicine.

Speaking to Gulf News, Dr Alwar Thiagarajan, the chief operating officer in charge of sports science services, said: “This coaching centre will be unique in many ways and will be available for men and women cricketers from the UAE and even any part of the world.”

Explaining the uniqueness of the academy, Dr. S. For more information on the coaching programmes visit www.trucoach.in.” Whatmore, who had groomed Sri Lanka into World Cup champions in 1996 and also recently transformed Bangladesh into a formidable side as coach expressed that he is delighted to work on this special coaching centre.

CSS is situated inside the Sri Ramachandra University campus in Chennai with a modern structure spanning over 1.6 lakh square feet. “The cricket facilities and sports science support is likely to get the best out of cricketers. It will assess their natural talent and potential. Whatmore’s experience, management skills and calibre to mentor teams will help us get the best out of players,” added Arumugam.

In fact, Kirmani was so impressed with the centre that he said: “Technology today is mind-boggling and to have the latest technical assistance and the support staff to assist you will be a boon for any budding cricketer.”
