Mohali: Stand-in captain Rohit Sharma smashed his third One-day International double century and celebrated his second wedding anniversary in style by dedicating it to his wife Ritika Sajdeh as she watched from the stands.

Rohit helped India set Sri Lanka an imposing target of 393 in the second match of the series at Mohali on Wednesday.

As he hit the runs for the landmark double ton, he kissed his wedding finger and pointed to an emotional Ritika in the stands. Rohit and Ritika, who was his manager before, were married on December 13, 2015, in Mumbai.

The current season marked a comeback for the talented batsman, who was left in the cold for nearly eight months following a knee surgery. ‘Ro’, as he is known among the teammates, the Mumbaikar has often praised Ritika’s role in keeping his chin up during his lay-off and rehab days.

Leading the hosts in the absence of rested skipper Virat Kohli, Rohit laid waste to the Sri Lankan bowling with an unbeaten 208 off 153 deliveries to help India post 392 for four in their 50 overs.

It was the seventh time a batsman had scored 200 or more in ODIs with Rohit’s 264 against the same opponents in Kolkata in 2014 being the highest individual score in the 50-over format.
