Dubai: Danube Group notched yet another indoor tournament win to add to their overflowing trophy cabinet when their junior team, the Danube Tigers, emerged as the champions of the United Pro Sports Club Ramadan Cup tournament. They beat Al Futtaim convincingly by 23 runs in the title clash.

For Danube, the victory underlined their determination to overcome a setback which they encountered in the Sprite Ramadan Cup at Insportz Club when their senior team had to be content with victory in the Plate event, the first time they had to finish outside the top prizes in 12 years.

Danube, who have shown the way for many teams to specialise in indoor cricket, have two teams to play indoor cricket namely Danube Lions, their senior team, and the juniors who turn out under the name Danube Tigers.

Speaking to Gulf News, Anees Sajan, Managing Director and owner of Danube, said: “We have proved we are the undisputed kings of indoor cricket but we want to keep on winning in all forms of the game. Through indoor cricket, we proved that we can be a dominant force and now we are hoping to do the same in outdoor cricket too.”

In outdoor cricket, Danube have made their presence felt this season and are proving to be a formidable force by winning the prestigious Bukhatir League 50-overs trophy. The team are now focused on winning another top UAE domestic tournament — Abu Dhabi’s Al Hamad Cup to be held on September 5.

In the United Pro Sports Club Ramadan Cup, Danube batted first after winning the toss and scored a below-par score of 46 runs with all their batting pairs chipping in but none going on for a big score in the face of some tight bowling and fielding by Al Futtaim in their allotted 16 overs.

It was going to be tough for Danube to defend such a low score but the Danube boys fought like tigers and backed their good bowling with brilliant fielding to restrict the opponents to just 23 runs in their allotted 16 overs, thus winning the match by 23 runs.
