Dubai: Nearly 50 players will arrive in Dubai for the Peace and Sport Badminton Championship to be held from April 26 to 30.

The competition, held exclusively for top badminton women from the region, is being organised by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) in collaboration with the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and the Monaco-based Peace and Sport organisation.

The competition will see top badminton players from nine Arab countries — Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bahrain, Lebanon, Sudan, Jordon, Morocco, Algeria and two teams from hosts UAE — in action. Matches will be played at the Etisalat Academy along the Dubai-Sharjah road.

Laila Suhail chaired the first meeting of the organising committee to decide the schedule and various hosting arrangements.

“This will be a great initiative to bring all Arab nations involved in badminton on a common platform where we can foster peace and learn about the progress made by the sport worldwide,” Suhail said.

“I am sure everyone involved with the competition will benefit and grow further in the sport.”

During the course of the competition, the BWF will give lectures and workshops on the latest trends in badminton so that participants can improve themselves, while enabling officials from the region to get a better knowledge of the rules and coaching techniques.
