Dubai: The 2016 UIM Class One World Championship has been hauled back on track with the opening round of the season scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi from November 23 to 25.

The world body for watersport, the UIM under its president Raffaele Chiulli met with Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Advisor to the President of the UAE and Chairman, Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club (ADIMSC), last week.

At the end of the meeting, it was decided that Abu Dhabi will stage the opening round of 2016 UIM Class One World Championship in Abu Dhabi from November 23-25.

Considered the high-end class in powerboating, the Class One championship had temporarily stopped following the withdrawal of its promoter, H2O Racing, at the beginning of the season. So naturally, Chiulli was thrilled with the re-start of Class One racing in the near future.

“We are delighted that Abu Dhabi has become a key venue of our sports,” Chiulli remarked.

“The UAE has demonstrated its support for the UIM through its long-term commitment as an extremely active national authority and outstanding host of number of powerboating championships. This agreement further strengthens our ties and lays the foundation for an even closer cooperation in the future,” he added.

Shaikh Sultan was pleased on being bestowed with the honour of playing host to the series once again. “The UIM has our full support in its endeavour to take the sport of powerboating racing to ever higher levels and I am very pleased for Abu Dhabi to play a leading role in the development of our sport,” he said.
