Dubai: The top official at Victory Team is confident the UAE is in a favourable position to host at least two rounds of the 2017 UIM Offshore XCAT World Series that starts in the middle of September.

The XCAT season will open with a race in Tianjian followed by another two rounds in China itself. “We want to use the UAE National Day weekend to host the fourth round. At the moment we are not clear whether it is Dubai or Abu Dhabi hosting the fourth race, simply because the final two rounds of the F1 World Championships will be heading to Abu Dhabi and Sharjah at around the same time,” Huraiz Al Mur Mohammad Bin Huraiz, Chairman, Board of Directors at Victory Team, told Gulf News.

“However, we are confident the final two races will be in the UAE, with Dubai possibly hosting the final round some time in December,” he added.

The official XCAT calendar released by the UIM does not indicate a fifth race at the moment. “This aspect is still under discussion. Perhaps the world governing body for the sport will try and fit in a second race in the UAE or maybe they are keeping the option open to host the opening round of the 2018 season here,” Bin Huraiz noted.
