Sharjah: The Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) are the sole representatives from the UAE at the 17th Arab Women Clubs Basketball Championship being held in Egypt.

The event is organised by the Egyptian Shooting Club and runs from October 15 to 24 at The Sixth October Branch of the club.

Nada Al Naqbi, Director of the Women Sports Department at SLC, praised the support given to women’s sports at SLC by Her Highness Shaikha Jawaher Bint Mohammad Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, and President of SLC.

Al Naqbi expressed hope that the team will achieve positive results.

“Today, we are witnessing significant development in the field of women’s sports. Sharjah has earned a positive reputation in this area, which has helped increase its participation in regional and international tournaments in a variety of games. Our participation in this tournament is a reflection of this,” Al Naqbi said.

The SLC squad consists of Amal Jamal Bin Haider, Sara Issa, Sarah Joumaa, Suhaila Abbas, Alia Al Naqbi, Alyazah Sultan, Ala’a Bassam, Duaa Bassam and Nicole Moody.

The 17th Arab Women Clubs Basketball Championship will also see the participation of the hosts, Gezira Sporting Club (Egypt), Al Fuhais Club (Jordan), Dar Sufian Al Nahri Association in Nabeul (Tunisia), Al Amal Sports Club in Nabeul (Tunisia), the Lebanese Sporting Club, Serwane Nwe Club (Iraq), the Petroleum Complex (Algeria), the Olympic Club (Algeria) and the Moroccan Siwar Club (Morocco).
