Portland, Oregon: The NBA regular season came to a close on Wednesday with the Los Angeles Clippers suffering a 110-104 loss at Portland and missing out on the chance to secure the No.2 seed in the Western Conference.

The Clippers missed out when Oklahoma City beat Detroit earlier in the day, and had to settle for third seed and a first-round playoff series against Golden State.

Among other games, Memphis snatched the No.7 seed in the Western Conference away from Dallas by beating the Mavericks by a point in a thrilling overtime contest, Charlotte also had an overtime win, beating Chicago in a clash of playoff-bound teams, and the Los Angeles Lakers ended their dismal season on a high by beating a second-string San Antonio.

Portland’s Will Barton had a career-high 23 points and 10 rebounds as the Trail Blazers won their fifth-straight game while resting LaMarcus Aldridge. Portland will play Houston in the first round of the playoffs.

Jamal Crawford scored 34 points for the Clippers, who didn’t play Chris Paul and Blake Griffin.

Memphis’ Mike Conley hit two free throws with 1.1 seconds left in overtime to give the Grizzlies a vital 106-105 win over Dallas.

Dallas had one last shot, but Monta Ellis missed from the top of the key. That meant the Mavericks finished with the No.8 seed and will have to face state rival San Antonio in the first round of the playoffs, knowing they have lost their past nine games against the Spurs.

Memphis, which set a franchise record with a 14th straight home win in a single season, will open the postseason at Oklahoma City.

Charlotte’s Kemba Walker scored eight of his 22 points in overtime to guide the Bobcats to a 91-86 win over Chicago.

Al Jefferson added 10 points and 18 rebounds for Charlotte, and Chris Douglas-Roberts finished with 13 points after being held scoreless for the first three quarters.

Joakim Noah finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Bulls.

The Lakers ended their worst season since moving to Los Angeles by winning 113-100 at San Antonio.

Jordan Hill had 18 points and 14 rebounds and Nick Young scored 16 points for Los Angeles, which is preparing for a radical shake-up of its personnel in the offseason.

Kawhi Leonard had 14 points to lead San Antonio, which did not have anyone play more than 27 minutes. The Spurs had an opportunity to match a club record 63 wins, but opted to rest in preparation for defence of their conference title.

Oklahoma City wrapped up the No.2 seed in the West by edging Detroit 112-111, with Kevin Durant scoring 42 points, including 21 in the fourth quarter.

The Thunder had lost their previous two games, putting them in a must-win situation in the regular-season finale to earn the No.2 seed. Durant brought the Thunder back while recording his 14th 40-point game of the season.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored a career-high 30 points for the Pistons.

New Orleans closed a difficult season with a crowd-pleasing 105-100 win over Houston, with Tyreke Evans having 25 points and 10 assists.

Austin Rivers added 18 points for the Pelicans, who shot 52.4 per cent.
