Dubai: Thailand’s Akaseet Jum Jarean scored a total of 54 points to help the Hamdan Heritage Centre (HHC) defeat Dubai Municipality 97-51 and clinch the wheelchair basketball title in the third Nad Al Sheba (NAS) Ramadan Sports Tournament late on Wednesday.

Jarean’s contribution of 54 points was evenly distributed with the first quarter fetching him eleven points as HHC broke off after ten minutes with a five-point cushion at 17-12. But the Thai took off in the second with 19 points of his own along with two assists and a couple of rebounds as HHC continued dictating terms to Dubai Municipality to lead 50-25 at half-time.

In the third quarter, Jarean added another 12 points while Salah Ahmad and Hassan Essamlawi started getting their names on the scoreboard as HHC powered to an uncatchable 72-40 lead by the end of the period.

In the final quarter, it was once again the untiring Jarean making the moves for some easy lay-ups to add another dozen points as HHC eased their way to a final score of 97-51.

“It’s an amazing feeling to win. I wanted to be the inspiration for my team. I may have scored so many points but that would not have been possible without assistance from my teammates,” Jarean told Gulf News.

“We put in a lot of hard work to be in the final and this win will give us a lot of confidence to return and defend our title next year,” he added.
