Dubai: The third edition of the UAE School Olympic Games opened in great style and fanfare at the Sharjah Academic City on Monday.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the third edition will see nearly 2,000 children from UAE schools compete for honours.
Over the next three days, the event will see competitions being held in archery, track and field, shooting, swimming, fencing, taekwondo and jiu-jitsu with the winners advancing towards likely selection into the national squad.
Organised by the UAE National Committee (UAE NOC), Al Thiqa Club is hosting archery and track and field events while the Sharjah Ladies Club is holding shooting and fencing competitions. The University of Sharjah will host taekwondo, jiu jitsu and swimming events.
