Melbourne: Olympic 100-metre hurdles champion Sally Pearson will make her return to the track at a Diamond League meet in Birmingham, England on June 5, just over a year after sustaining a serious wrist injury during a race in Rome last year.

The 29-year-old Australian, who won gold at London in 2012, has also been affected by an Achilles tendon injury in the lead-up to the Olympics at Rio de Janeiro in August.

Pearson broke two bones, including her left wrist, in the fall during the Rome Diamond League meet last June 4.

Athletics Australia said in a statement Wednesday that Pearson will remain overseas for other competitions in June before returning to her Gold Coast base in Queensland, Australia for training ahead of races on the international circuit in July. (AP)
