Dubai: The Dubai Sports Council (DSC) on Tuesday resumed all competitions in the Third Shaikha Hind Women’s Sports Tournament at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) after a three-day break.

Held under the directives of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and DSC Chairman, the annual tournament consists of eight sports held over two weeks.

In the badminton competition, Mona Al Sahlawi and Fatima Mohammad Jawad both scored opening round wins. Al Sahlawi went on to defeat Fatima Mohammad, while Jawad got the better of Zahra Taleb to advance in the singles.

Mariam Al Salaqi beat Hamda Al Najjar, while Amna Naseeb got the better of Ameenah Abdullah and Mariam Ali in successive matches.

Nada Saleh from the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) won the road race held last week. Saleh completed the 3km run in 14min 49.42sec.

The badminton competition will continue from Wednesday, with three matches taking place simultaneously on the three courts at the DWTC. The swimming competition will take place at Al Wasl Club on Friday, while the cycling race will be held at the Nad Al Sheba cycle track on Saturday.

Competitions will conclude with the finals at the DWTC indoor courts on September 19, with more than Dh400,000 on offer for the winners.
