Sharjah: The Commercial Bank of Dubai (CBD), lone sponsors of the Third UAE School Olympic Games, rewarded medal winners with debit cards at the end of competition on Wednesday.

Gold medal winners were presented with CBD-Visa debit cards with a capacity to spend Dh3,000, silver medal winners received cards with Dh2,000 and bronze medallists got Dh1,000 on their cards. A total of 390 debit cards were handed out to medal winners by the end of the three days of competitions in archery, shooting, swimming, fencing and athletics.

“At CBD, we have a strategy where we want to ensure the development of our youngsters through the pursuit of sports. This is the future of our country and by giving out debit cards we are also educating these children on the use of money,” Amer Makki, Senior Manager, Strategic Planning, CBD, told Gulf News.

Earlier this year, CBD signed a three-year contract with the UAE NOC to support the UAE School Olympic Games till 2017. “For us this is a commitment and we wished we could get some more private sector companies involved in the UAE School Olympic Games,” he added.
