Dubai: Sharjah-based Rebecca Ferrari handed herself an early 50th birthday gift while completing the full 5km race at the Sixth Dubai Women’s Run at Skydive Dubai on Friday.

Rebecca, whose husband Jorge is a well-known photographer from Argentina and now living in the UAE, has never pursued any physical activity, let alone participation in a competitive race during her past few years in the UAE.

But with her 50th birthday on Saturday, November 5, Rebecca decided she needed to do something different and unique to mark the milestone. “On my 40th birthday I did a walk in Ras Al Khaimah along with my three children Luca, Marco and Nina. This time it had to be something unique,” mum Rebecca told Gulf News.

“So when it came to deciding what unique venture I would take upon myself, I said ‘why not take part in the Dubai Women’s Run? Luckily my husband [Jorge] and friend and training partner Susie [Cottam] backed me and encouraged me to persevere for the past couple of months, and here we are,” she smiled.

With yet another challenge out off her list, Rebecca had initially mulled turning her attention to something different for her next big bucket list moment. “But this run has been an amazing experience and I think I will continue training for the rest of the year. And who knows, I may enter for the 10km race next year,” she insisted.
