Dubai: The appointment of Emirati gymnast Lamia Tariq Malallah Al Farsi as ‘Brand Influencer’ for the Dubai Women’s Run will raise its profile, as per the organiser of the annual event.

Organised every year since 2010, the seventh edition of the Dubai Women’s Run will be held on November 17 this year with organisers expecting more than 5,000 women to participate.

With less than three months remaining for the run, organisers Plan b on Thursday confirmed the addition of the six-year-old Al Farsi as its latest ‘Brand Influencer’ for the race. “We want our women in the UAE to be inspired, and we felt that one of the biggest athletes who can inspire and motivate our women to attend the run is young Lamia,” Harmeek Singh, Founder and Chairman, Plan b, told Gulf News.

“For us, appointing Lamia is just the first step at totally rebranding this race as one of the biggest and the best event in the region. Sport is one of the best mediums to help our women stand up to their beliefs so that stereotypes are broken,” he added.

Lamia’s exploits as one of the UAE’s fastest rising sporting stars have been well documented over the past one year. The six-year-old student from the International School of Choueifat recently battled a painful knee and a bout of vomiting to pick up her first international gold medal while winning the Senior B category at the 2017 Open GR Azur International Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament held in Nice, France.

At the end of 2016, Plan b secured a five-year contract with the UAE Athletics Federation (UAE AF) to organise the Dubai Women’s Run. Over a period of just six years, the event has been continuously attracting more than 5,000 participants to run for a healthier and active lifestyle. “But from now on, things will be different as we feel the need to create a support system that will help our women make a further difference in society,” Singh said.

“The ultimate goal is to work towards women’s empowerment so that this run acts as a catalyst in helping them build up self-confidence.

Held under the patronage of patronage of Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Dubai Women’s Run aims to motivate and inspire women towards physically fit lives while also getting socially involved in upliftment in a supportive and friendly environment.
