Dubai: The Etisalat Dubai Kids’ Run scheduled for March 21 marks Dubai’s latest initiative to promote an active lifestyle among the general public.

The run was announced by Lord Sebastian Coe, Vice-President of the International Athletics Association (IAAF) and Chairman of the British Olympic Association (BOA), in the presence of Ahmad Al Kamali, IAAF Council Member and President, UAE Athletics Association (UAE AA), besides sponsors and other officials, on Sunday.

Organised by the CPI Media Group in coordination with UAE AA, the Etisalat Kids’ Run will be an annual event held with the aim of increasing the number of youngsters who make sport a part of their daily lives.

There will be three races for children between four to 12 years on March 21. The races will be held to coincide with Mothers’ Day celebrations.

“Half the population of USA, China and another half from Brazil and Great Britain will be defined as inactive by 2030. That will account to one billion people. The good thing is that the challenge is being met by constructive and creative people while allowing children to express themselves. Sport should become an integral part of their lives and each child needs to find his or her self-esteem through sport,” Coe told media at the announcement.

Designed to bring out the fun element in competition, the race will focus on promoting healthy and balanced lifestyles for younger generations. Organisers have promised to construct a child-friendly running course at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre.

Held under the patronage of Shaikha Al Jalila Bint Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the annual event promises to be one of the region’s most popular community engagement to foster healthy living.
