Dubai: Emirati 10,000-metre Asian Games gold medallist Aliah Mohammad Saeed has confirmed her participation in the fifth annual Dubai Holding Women’s Run, on November 7.

Over 6,000 runners are expected to take part in both the 10km and 5km races along Umm Al Suqueim Road.

Dubai Holding has contributed prize money totalling Dh90,000 annually as part of a five-year Dh5 million agreement with the UAE Athletics Federation.

Cedric Betis, chairman of Dubai Holding Wellness Committee, said: “The Dubai Holding Women’s Run supports the government’s initiative to encourage healthy living in the UAE and our sponsorship demonstrates our commitment to further spreading our ‘wellness’ message’ to the wider community. We are proud to be investing in our community by supporting events like this that empower women and encourage them to live an active life.”

All runners are encouraged to dedicate the funds that they raise to the Al Jalila Foundation. Dubai Holding has already donated Dh5 million to the cause, which will be used to support research into obesity in the UAE.

Race director Liesa Euton, said: “I’m excited to see such a large number of registrants and want to encourage more women to join us on November 7. Dubai Holding Women’s Run has established itself as a major sports event in the regional calendar, with runners travelling from far and wide to take part.”
