Channing Tatum stars as Mark Schultz and Mark Ruffalo stars as David Schultz in Sony Pictures Classics' Foxcatcher (2014)

New Releases

Foxcatcher

Magic Mike gets serious in this psychological crime drama. Channing Tatum trades his bikini briefs in for a singlet to portray Olympic Gold Medal-winning wrestler Mark Schultz, a tormented athlete struggling to escape poverty and the shadow of his more famous brother, Dave Schultz (Mark Ruffalo). These boys give Oscar-worthy performances but the real stand out in this flick is Steve Carrell. His disturbing portrayal of the half-mad, eccentric multi-millionaire, Jon du Pont, will make your skin crawl from the moment he appears on screen right up until the film’s final frame.

You’ll see Carrell like you’ve never seen him before. No, seriously. He’s 13kg overweight and wearing a prosthetic nose. Not even a gym full of lil’ yellow minions could make this character less despicable. Carrell’s transformation doesn’t leave the slightest hint of the loveable, bumbling characters you were crushing on in Crazy Stupid Love and Evan All Mighty.

Bennett Miller, the director that found his groove with Capote and Moneyball, has put together a phenomenal cast to tell this gripping true story of two Olympic athletes who fall under the twisted spell of an unstable millionaire.

Fellas, you best be clearing some space on the mantle ‘cuz you could be walking away with some hardware come Oscar time.

Night at the Museum 3 – Secret of the Tomb

Your favourite museum security guard Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) is back as and this time he takes the crew to London in the 3rd flick of the franchise.

This might be the last time we see Robin Williams on the silver screen in something new so you might wanna check it out just for that. There is more to it than that though, Ricky Gervais makes his return as the loveable Dr McPhee plus this time round we meet new character the hilarious Rebel Wilson playing a security guard at the British Museum. Personally I’d watch it just for her.

Not as good as the original but still worth a watch if you’ve got some spare time this Christmas.

Gone with the Wind (rerun)

Whether you gave a damn or not the first time round, give a damn this time round because Gone with The Wind is on at the cinema! It’s back as we celebrate 75 years since it first came out…yes 75 years, so if you want to see what cinema was like when your granny was going to the flicks, go see Gone with the Wind…or just watch it on VHS, that’s almost as old school as the movie!

Still Showing

The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies

Everyone’s favourite furry-footed friend and his band of pint-sized lumbersexuals are still hanging around in theatres this holiday season. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies takes us back to middle earth and keeps us there waaaay too long. You may need to pack a lunch because this bad boy has a run time of 144 minutes. The final flick in Peter Jackson’s trilogy reveals if Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) can rally the dwarves, elves and humans to defend Erebor from Sauron and his legion of mighty Orcs. This JRR Tolkien adaptation is definitely worth a watch and it’s one of those epics you’ve gotta see on the big screen.

Alone for Christmas

If you still want some festive cheer at the movies check this one out

Like Christmas? Tick. Like Dogs? Tick…well then you’ll love this. The story focuses on Bone, a cute little Boston Terrier who has to save Christmas when his family leave him flying solo after realising granny is more important than him. Poor pup right?

Think cute dogs like the Beethoven puppies, Christmas Cheer as seen in Miracle on 34th Street and think scary but funny criminals as in Home Alone’s Harry and Marv. In fact think a lot of Home Alone, this is basically Home Alone for dogs! Instead of the kid saving Christmas and catching the bad guys this time it’s the dog!
