1983 President His Highness Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan arrived for the seventh non-aligned summit conference in New Delhi. The president was received at the airport by his Indian counterpart Giani Zail Singh. In an arrival statement, Shaikh Zayed called upon the leaders of the non-aligned states to intensify their efforts to solve all disputes among the movement’s members and to help establish a new international economic order.

Shaikh Zayed said the seventh nonaligned summit conference was an expression of the aspirations of the Third World for progress, stability and peace. He said the conference was being held in circumstances marred by political conflicts and economic crises. He added they were escalating in a direction threatening the security and stability of the international community.

The President called upon the non-aligned states to adhere to the principles of the movement; to reject superpower domination and to strive toward an independent policy that would enable them to achieve security and prosperity for their peoples.
