NEW YORK, NY - DECEMBER 21: The voting results are displayed on the floor of the United Nations General Assembly in which the United States declaration of Jerusalem as Israel's capital was declared "null and void" on December 21, 2017 in New York City. The vote, 128-9, at the United Nations concerned Washington's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and relocate its embassy there. The Trump administration has threatened to take action against any country that votes against the United States decision to move its embassy. UAE newspaper Al Khaleej said the United Nations resolution rejecting Trump’s unilateral decision on [occupied] Jerusalem is a slap in the face for Washington and its policy of threatening and blackmailing countries to subject to its dictations. “The vote by 128 member-states against the US decision clearly means that the entire world stands by justice and the right to self-determination, rejecting Washington’s cheap practices and threats to cut off aid to countries that would vote against Trump’s decision. The US has failed in the international community’s test, the second fall in a week after it used veto against the UN Security Council’s resolution on [occupied] Jerusalem.

The US appeared miserable before the international community, as it could not twist the truth despite its might and strength. Palestine has been and will remain an Arab country — with [occupied] Jerusalem as its capital, recognised by the entire world,” the paper wrote.

Oman’s Al Watan paper said the lopsided majority of UN members, who rebuked the US by denouncing its decision on occupied Jerusalem proves that Washington has become isolated, and is acting against the international legitimacy and international will. It further confirms that the power of right will be victorious no matter what the power of injustice. “The time is ripe for Palestinians to take diplomatic action in order to suspend Trump’s recognition of [occupied] Jerusalem as the capital of the Israeli occupation entity, and expose its aggressive practices.

The Palestinians can expose Israel’s brutal acts before the international public opinion and launch a worldwide campaign to illustrate its barbaric practices that violate international law. They need to mobilise the world against this entity that has become a threat to international peace and security,” it noted.

Al Riyadh, a Saudi daily newspaper, praised the international consensus against Trump’s unilateral decision, which came as a kiss of death to the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. “The international consensus was expected because the free world rejects all forms of foreign occupation and the policy of imposing a fait accompli by force. The UN resolution means that the entire world is rejecting all actions taken by Israel to change the status of [occupied] Jerusalem, which is recognised as a holy city by followers of three divine religions. Although it is a nonbinding resolution, it truly exemplifies the world’s belief in peace based on respect for principles and the right of people to self-determination. Undoubtedly, there will be no peace without [occupied] Jerusalem being the capital of Palestine ...”

Al Quds, Palestinian newspaper, said the majority vote in UN, in faviour of Palestinians, is a victory for international justice and freedom. “So, what is the importance of this non-binding resolution to Palestine cause? First, the international legitimacy avoids all resolutions taken by countries and hence UN resolution gains supremacy over any other. [Second] The General Assembly resolution constitutes a strong legal framework. With this resolution, the Palestinians can resort to international courts like the International Criminal Court or the International Court of Justice,” the paper said.
