The UAE’s Al Bayan said the fact that the rebel forces in Yemen have retreated in the face of intense attacks by the popular resistance is a sign for optimism regarding Yemen. “The Popular Resistance’s attacks were backed by Arab coalition air strikes. During the past few days, Taiz has witnessed fierce fights break out, and on Monday, the Popular Resistance was able to thwart rebel attacks and set up various traps in different areas of Taiz that led to the death of dozens of Al Houthi fighters. In an unusual development, orders were also issued by the General Joint Command to Arab naval fleets in preparation to launch attacks to liberate Yemeni islands in the Red Sea. The hour is nigh for Yemen’s salvation, particularly after many Yemeni lands were liberated from Al Houthis and forces loyal to ousted Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh.”

Events in Taiz show that the Popular Resistance in Yemen is achieving a number of successes, which reaffirm that the decisive battle will soon take place, said Saudi Arabia’s Al Yaum. “What is being witnessed in Taiz is the success of the resistance in carrying out its fighting duties to perfection as Al Houthis and forces loyal to Saleh suffered massive losses. The liberation of Taiz also means the liberation of the governorates of Dhamar, Ibb and Al Hudaydah, which means that the strategic military presence of rebel forces in these governorates will suffer from the defeat in Taiz. The decisive battle between the popular forces and the national legitimate army against the rebels will be taking place soon, particularly following the arrival of Arab military backing that will put an end to the battles in Taiz.”

In other headlines this week, Qatar’s Al Sharq said the Palestinian issue was currently in a very critical phase that required action to put an end to an occupation that has lasted since the Second World War.

“The Palestinians must decide their fate by establishing an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. There are two instances which reveal that peace is not something that will be realised in the near future; the first is that the White House recently issued a statement saying that the ‘two nations’ goal will not be achieved within the last few months of US President Barack Obama’s final term in office. The second is Israel’s persistence that the Palestinians must recognise the Judaisation of the state of Israel.

“It is these two instances that reveal the absence of seriousness in achieving peace, and this requires the Arab nation and peace-loving countries to take serious action, through any means necessary, to push the international community to take decisions and stand for ending the Israeli occupation.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must listen to the Israeli voices that call for changing his extremist right-wing policies, which he exercises in response to extremists and colonists in his government, said Palestine’s Al Quds. “Sooner or later, Netanyahu must succumb to the will of our people who reject occupation and strive to realise their national rights in a sovereign and independent nation. It is better for Netanyahu to listen to the Israeli voices who are advising him not to continue occupying Palestinian Territories and start working on a two-state solution, which will, in turn, restore stability and security in the region ...”
