Illinois: Three people died after a train smashed into a van near the route of a Halloween parade on Thursday night minutes before the parade started.
Police said a van was a block away from the parade route around 6:45 pm at the intersection of 6th and Main Streets of Vandalia when the train hit the van, TV channel Kmov reported.
The parade was set to start around 7pm (3am Dubai time).
The Fayette County Coroner told the channel that two people inside the van and one pedestrian had died.
It was not immediately clear what led to the crash or what happened to two other victims inside the van who were air-lifted to a hospital.
Authorities said the van was not part of the parade.
