Kano, Nigeria: Two more people have been infected with Ebola in Nigeria, the authorities say, bringing the total number of cases there to nine as the outbreak spreads through West Africa.

All the infected patients are in hospital in Lagos, Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu announced late on Sunday.

Two people have died of Ebola in Nigeria.

The country has banned the transport of corpses across national and state borders, in an attempt to halt an outbreak that has killed almost 1,000 people in West Africa.

People who die of Ebola will have to be buried in the community where they die. The ruling will especially affect the families of Nigerians dying in Ebola-affected Liberia, Guinea or Sierra Leone, the health ministry said.

Another West African country, Senegal, has meanwhile reported its first suspected Ebola case, in the nation’s north. The patient is a 27-year-old Malian.

Meanwhile, Ivory Coast announced on Monday that it has banned all flights from countries hit by the deadly Ebola virus.

The government said in a statement that it has banned all carriers from transporting passengers from these countries. It has also suspended flights by its national airline to and from these locations.

Rwanda placed a German student with Ebola-like symptoms in isolation, the health ministry said on Monday, as the outbreak spreads through West Africa.

The student, who had recently spent time in Liberia, where Ebola has caused the deaths of 294 people, is Rwanda’s first suspected Ebola case, Health Minister Agnes Binagwaho said on Twitter.

Samples had been sent to “an international, accredited laboratory” according to Binagwaho.

The patient, who had a fever and malaria, had been quarantined at King Faisal Hospital in the capital, Kigali, for “100 per cent security,” the minister said.
