Islamabad A special PIA plane evacuated around 500 Pakistanis on Sunday from Al-Hudaydah city of Yemen, officials said.

The flight was due to reach the southern port ciy of Karachi at around 10.30 p.m. (local time).

In a twitter message, Pakistani foreign ministy spokeswoman Tasneem Aslam said no further evacuation was as yet required from Hudaydah, according to the state-run radio.

The spokeswoman said fighting was going on in Yemen’s port city of Aden where 150 to 200 Pakistanis were stranded. She said the Aden airport is not accessible but the city’s port is.

Aslam said a Pakistani Navy ship was on its way to Aden and “we also contacted Chinese officials there to seek their help in the evacuation.”

She said the situation was peaceful in Yemeni city of Moqalla where 150 to 250 Pakistanis were stranded and the government is trying to ascertain how many people want to be evacuated from nearby airport Riyan or Ghaidah.

The spokeswoman said 150 Pakistanis will travel to Moqallaa from Aden by road to join those there. She said a special plane will go to Moqallaa on Tuesday to bring Moqallaa and Aden evacuees.

The first airliner was sent to Hudaydah after receiving clearance from Saudi Arabia, which is spearheading the operation against Houthi rebels in Yemen.

A Pakistan Navy spokesman said the navy ship would remain in the Gulf of Aden to deal with any situation.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Yemen Dr. Irfan Shami has said the evacuation of around ninety-five percent Pakistanis in Yemen numbering around 3,000, will be completed soon.
