Islamabad: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Tahirul Qadri withdrew on Monday his advice to party workers and supporters to write ‘go Nawaz go’ slogans on currency notes, after a government caution such bills would become invalid.

Qadri had issued the instruction while addressing participants of the more than four-week old PAT sit-in near the parliament in tandem with similar protest by Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PIT).

Both leaders have vowed to continue the sit-ins till acceptance of their demands including resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. They halted talks with the government last week over arrests of their workers.

In his address on Monday, Qadri said instead of writing the anti-Sharif slogan on currency notes, PAT supporters should send SMS and on the social media.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar had said in a statement that Qadri was misleading people.

Dar said notes with any writing would not be accepted as legal tender by banks or business community. Separately, the State Bank also warned against defacement of currency notes.

The finance minister said Qadri had already caused a huge loss to the national economy and national interest through his agitational activities.
