Karachi: The leader of the opposition in the National Assembly on Sunday advised the government to take parliament into confidence about decisions it has taken or would take regarding sending of Pakistani forces to strife-torn Yemen.

Khursheed Shah, senior politician of Pakistan People’s Party admitted that Pakistan shared special friendly ties with Saudi Arabia, but was tied up in its own war against terrorism.

The Prime Minister’s office, early this week, was quoted as saying that Pakistan would sternly respond to threats to Saudi Arabia’s territorial integrity and said an assessment mission was being sent to the kingdom to examine the situation.

However, the Pakistani delegation, which would have comprised of the country’s defence minister and the adviser to the prime minister, did not leave the country after many Pakistani political parties expressed reservations.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) also opposed the government’s move to militarily reinforce the Saudi forces in view of the potential fallout at home.

Imran Khan of Pakistan Tehreeke Insaf (PTI) also tweeted against Sharif’s decision, saying that Pakistani troops should not be sent to Saudi as they were already engaged in war against militants at home.
