Karachi: A rich man is believed to have committed suicide after shooting dead his wife and three sons, one of whom was aged one, in a posh area of the city, police officials said.

All the five members of the family in the Defence Phase IV area were found with gunshot wounds at their lavish residence, prompting investigators to believe it was a murder-suicide.

Police and rescue workers reached the residence after neighbours of the family reported hearing gunshots at the residence of Jamal Durrani, a sugar mill owner.

Law enforcement agencies reached the residence and forced their way into the house, where they stumbled upon the bodies.

Police said no valuables had been stolen and there was no sign of any resistance or brawl as everything seemed to be in order.

While investigators believe Durrani shot his family before turning the gun on himself, they also admitted they were clueless as to what could have motivated him to do so.
