Islamabad: At least 14 people died and more than 40 were injured when a passenger bus plunged into a ravine in Pakistan-administered Kashmir on Monday, police said.

The accident took place while the bus belonging to a private transport operator was on a regular run from the town of Mirpur to Samahni.

The injured were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Mirpur and several of them are stated to be in critical condition. Rescue officials said that the incident occurred at Pona in Bhimber Tehsil in AJK, when a the driver lost control.

Local people of Pona village rushed to the scene before police and rescue teams reached on spot.

The incident follows another accident that killed 10 two days ago.

At least 10 persons were killed and several others injured when a passenger bus collided with a truck in Pakistan’s troubled Balochistan province today.

The accident took place in the Bala Nari area of Sibi district, Police official Mohammad Amjad said.

“They were coming from opposite directions and apparently the drivers lost control and the bus fell into a ravine,” he said.

The injured were rushed to civil hospital Sibi for medical treatment.

Both vehicles were severely damaged during the accident.

Amjad said while six people died on the spot, four others succumbed to their injuries while being rushed to hospital.

Balochistan has seen a sharp rise in traffic accidents, which have claimed dozens of lives.

In March, two passenger buses collided with annoil tanker, killing at least 35 people.
