Patna: A woman in Bihar was killed by being subjected to an “acid bath” after she demanded her money back.

Police said the middle-aged woman, Dayawati Devi, a resident of Rangamatia village in eastern Bihar’s Katihar district, had been depositing the hard-earned money that she earned as a daily wage labourer with a local businessman Kalu Singh.

She had allegedly deposited with him a sum of Rs10,000 (Dh610) after saving a little amount every day.

At the time of the alleged murder, she urgently required her money for her family but the businessman began giving one excuses.

The victim had been living with her 10-year-old nephew after her husband rejected and then threw her out his house.

The continued pressure to return the money irked the businessman.

On Tuesday night while she was sleeping with her nephew, the businessman allegedly entered her house and poured acid on her, following which she suffered severe burns on all parts of her body.

She was died while being taken to a local hospital.

The police have registered a case and efforts are on to arrest the fleeing accused.
