Abu Dhabi: Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and President of Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), has ordered emergency humanitarian aid for people affected by flooding in India.

He instructed the ERC to implement a humanitarian programme to meet the basic needs of flood-hit people and help improve their living conditions that deteriorated after the worst flooding in half a century hit the Indian part of Kashmir last week.

Shaikh Hamdan also instructed the ERC to speed up the delivery of relief materials and humanitarian assistance to people who were displaced from their homes and facing very difficult conditions.

Dr. Mohammad Ateeq Al Falahi, Secretary General of ERC, said the move reflects Shaikh Hamdan’s keenness to help alleviate the suffering of affected people and improve their humanitarian conditions.

He said that he has been closely following with the great interest the aftermath of the floods.

The ERC has immediately embarked on the implementation of Shaikh Hamdan’s instructions and set a relief plan to provide the essential needs and requirements of flood-hit people.

Al Falahi said that the ERC is coordinating its relief operations with the Indian Red Cross and the UAE Consulate in Mumbai.
