Thiruvananthapuram: Two women are hogging the headlines in Kerala after allegedly blackmailing high-profile people using videos taken of them in compromising positions.

This comes one year after the state government had a tough time when a woman allegedly duped dozens of people under the pretext of providing solar power solutions.

The two alleged blackmailers, Ruksana and Bindyas, reportedly trapped businessmen into performing sexual acts that were filmed and then used to blackmail them.

The duo secured bail in the case but both were reportedly missing from their home in Kochi on Friday even as police were preparing to arrest them in connection with the apparent suicide of a businessman they had targeted.

The case took a different turn with reports emerging that the women may have trapped some political leaders, too.

The reports indicate that the political future of some leaders may be hit if the videos are exposed.

The main accused in the blackmail case, Jayachandran, is already in police custody and the fact that he made use of the legislators’ hostel in the state capital for his operations prompted opposition MLAs to hold a rally against the government.

Since then, the speaker of the state assembly has given directives to ensure that there is better screening of visitors to the legislators’ hostel.

The blackmailing case came to light following the death of a Kollam-based businessman identified as Ravindran. He is believed to have committed suicide after being blackmailed. Ravindran’s friend Wilson Pereira said the blackmailers had captured a video of Ravindran with one of the women, and they had threatened to expose him to his family and friends.

Pereira said another businessman, Saji, was also been blackmailed by the women. “Ravindran was very bold and therefore I never thought he would take the extreme step,” Pereira said.

He said a cashew businessman and a timber merchant from Kollam and another businessman based in Kochi were also among those blackmailed by the women.

Jayachandran, who is in police custody, is being taken to different locations in connection with the investigation into the case. He is accused of seeking millions of rupees from the victims, allegedly by threatening to expose their explicit videos.
