Thiruvananthapuram: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s Kerala unit called for a dawn to dusk, statewide shutdown Tuesday to protest the killing of its leader in Kannur.

RSS leader K.T. Manoj was Monday morning attacked by unknown assailants with bombs as he was going in a vehicle in Kathiroor in Kannur district and then assaulted with swords, according to the local police.

Soon after the murder, the RSS called for a shutdown in Kannur district, but by evening, decided to extend it throughout the state.

Kannur district for long has seen clashes between activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party/RSS and the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM). Police are on the lookout for a few CPM activists alleged to be behind the murder of Manoj.
