Mumbai: Maharashtra, like other states, has some of the richest candidates, it was revealed when they declared their assets while filing their nominations.

Supriya Sule, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), contesting from Baramati seat has declared assets worth Rs1.118 billion. Her share is Rs338.7 million while the share of her husband Sadanand Sule, a businessman, is Rs772 million. Their wealth has doubled over the last five years, as per her signed affidavit.

Property worth Rs28 million is in her children’s name. Incidentally, both husband and wife have stated they own no cars. The assets include movable and immovable properties, bank deposits, jewellery, land and housing assets.

In Pune, Congress party’s Vishwajeet Kadam is the richest candidate in the city with assets worth Rs870 million in his name and that of his wife Swanpnali, daughter of real estate developer Avinash Bhosale. Kadam does not own any car while his wife has four.

Son of state forest minister Patangrao Kadam, who runs the Bharatiya Vidyapeeth that has educational institutes across the country, Kadam declared assets of Rs369 million and Rs505.6 million in the name of his wife.

Former scam-tainted chief minister Ashok Chavan and Congress candidate from Nanded has disclosed wealth valued at Rs390 million — of which gold and silver jewellery is worth Rs1.81 million and diamonds Rs2.42 million and his wife has gold jewellery worth Rs5.98 million and diamonds worth Rs6.45 million. Chavan also has a debt of Rs35 million in his name.

Surprisingly, he does not own a car but has six trucks which are used for delivery of gas cylinders for the Ujjwal Gas Service. His wife, Amita Chavan, has a saloon car, two tractors, one SUV and one tractor trolley in her name.

BJP leader Gopinath Munde contesting from the Beed seat has declared assets owned by him and his family totalling Rs380 million. He has Rs600,000 cash in hand, wife Pradnya Rs800,000 and daughter Yashshri Rs500,000.

The 66-year-old leader has movable assets of Rs25.6 million and these include deposits, shares, gold ornaments and a car. Pradnya’s movable assets are valued at Rs44.9 million while daughter Yashshri has Rs23.9 million.

He also has debts of Rs30 million while his wife has a loan of Rs150 million in her name. Yashshri’s debt stood at Rs13 million.
