Thiruvananthapuram: A housewife in Kerala whose neighbour refused to return money and gold she had lent to them got on top of the debtor’s house and threatened to jump if the amount was not repaid.
The dramatic scenes played out on Saturday in Iruppa near Changanacherry. The woman kept threatening to jump from the terrace even as police and scores of residents tried to convince her to come down.
She had lent Rs200,000 and 30 sovereigns of gold to the neighbour and the debtor had not returned the loan despite several reminders. The woman then decided to take the extreme step.
Police and fire fighting personnel got into the act and after an hour’s efforts, managed to get her to come down. Following discussions at the local police station, the issue was temporarily settled, local media reported.
