Patna: A 10-year-old boy in Bihar fought with a crocodile bare-handed to save his goat.

The incident took place at Bhediari Tola village in West Champaran district Saturday afternoon.

Reports said Hariram Kumar, a Grade 6 pupil, was told by his mother to tend his pair of goats in the field after he returned home from school. Subsequently, he took the goats to a nearby canal.

Hardly had he freed the goats in the field when a crocodile came out of the canal and attacked. The boy rushed to save it and tried to drag it away from the jaws of the reptile.

Witnesses said the sudden intervention angered the crocodile. It freed the animal but turned towards Kumar and held his right hand in its jaws. The boy bled profusely, but he did not lose heart and fought bravely.

Displaying exemplary courage and intelligence, Kumar jabbed the fingers on his left hand into the reptile’s eyes. The unexpected fight-back stunned the crocodile which quickly jumped into the water, leaving the boy free. Reports said no villagers rushed to help Kumar out of fear of the crocodile during the 30-minute fight.

Soon after the incident, villagers rushed the boy to a local primary health centre for treatment with severe wounds in his right arm, but the doctors say there is nothing to worry.
