Hyderabad: As part of his drive to strengthen the party in southern India, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah will undertake a three-day visit to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, where he will participate in various organisational programmes.
Shah, who is currently on a visit to Kerala, will arrive in Telangana on December 28 and proceed to Vijayawada, the temporary capital of Andhra Pradesh, the next day.
According to sources inside the party, he will take part in the party’s membership drive and will address meetings of the state’s office bearers. He will also address a meeting of districts, village and Mandal Presidents, and prominent leaders of the party. BJP, which is trying to emerge as the principle opposition party in the state, aims to enrol ten lakh members.
Shah’s visit assumes special significance in the backdrop of the recent statement made by party general secretary Ram Madhav that stated that hence forth the BJP will contest all the elections in Andhra Pradesh on its own. The declaration came as a surprise to the ruling Telugu Desam as hereto BJP was an ally.
