Meerut: An eight months pregnant teenager was allegedly strangled to death by her two brothers and her body thrown into the Ganges canal in the Uttar Pradesh city of Meerut in a suspected honour killing, police said on Friday.

The incident came to light when the 19-year-old’s body was pulled from the canal on Tuesday, Hastinapur police station officer-in-charge P.K. Singh said.

The victim was allegedly having an affair with a man from the same village. Her parents found out about it when she was unwell and they took her to a doctor, who said she was eight-months pregnant.

Angry over the affair, brothers Sonu and Bhoore and an accomplice took her to Gang canal where they allegedly strangled her and dumped the body, Singh said.

The post mortem report confirmed that the girl was strangled. A which murder case has been registered against the three accused.

The girl’s family have absconded and a manhunt is underway.
