Dubai: A worker has been accused of attempting to hug and kiss a 10-year-old girl in her grandparents’ house while she was watching television.

The 31-year-old Pakistani worker, M.A., was said to have sneaked behind the Iranian girl and tried to molest her and remove her clothes in December.

Records said the girl managed to break loose from the suspect and ran out of the television room.

The suspect denied his accusations and entered a not guilty plea when he defended himself before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said the suspect attempted to kiss the girl on her lips before she ran away from him.

“I did not molest her. I was just trying to take her out of the room,” M.A. argued in courtroom three.

“What is your relation to the girl? What work do you there?” presiding judge Ezzat Abdul Lat asked the suspect.

“I take care of an old man [girl’s grandfather] who lives in the house. I did not intend to molest the girl,” replied the defendant.

The girl’s father claimed to prosecutors that his daughter informed him that something bad happened to her.

“When I asked her what happened, she made me promise not to get angry or beat her before she claimed that M.A. tried to molest her. She alleged that while she was watching television at her grandparents’ house, the suspect came to her and asked her to undress and kiss him. She claimed that she got very scared and rushed out of the room to her grandmother’s room. She did not inform anyone until she came home and told me what reportedly happened. When I confronted the suspect, he admitted that he asked my daughter to undress and kiss him,” the father testified to prosecutors.

Records said the girl acted out what the suspect did to her before the prosecutor who heard her statement.

She was cited claiming to prosecutors that the defendant pulled her by her arm before he attempted to molest her.

During Monday’s hearing, the suspect pleaded innocent despite having been quoted admitting to prosecutors that he asked the girl to undress.

A ruling will be heard on February 26.
