I would like to highlight this issue to the authorities that most people residing in Al Nahda area, in Sharjah face the issue of motorists double parking on the main streets. An average of two to three cars are double-parked on every street and cause inconvenience to others, especially during rush hour, as it creates traffic congestion and havoc across the area.
Many a times it is even difficult for pedestrians to cross the road as many cars overtake the parked vehicles by driving on the opposite side of the road. This could result in accidents and human casualty. There is also the risk of vehicles colliding head on.
Earlier, there used to be police patrol units in the area and they would ask drivers to move their cars and clear the road, but lately such supervision is not being carried out, which is a big concern for people residing in the area.
I would like to share an incident that occurred a few days ago. I was driving on the street in the photograph and got caught up when both sides of the road were blocked due to motorists who had decided to double park.
I sounded the horn a couple of times to signal the driver ahead to move, but he ignored my request. I had to get out of my car and approach him. I informed him that he was blocking the lane and requested him to move his car, but he ignored me. This clearly stated the amount of respect he had towards the law.
I request the authorities to at least deploy their patrol units during rush hours as it would ease traffic and clear the roads.
