Dubai:

Unlike Thursday’s wet weather, the weekend will be cloudy to partially cloudy with only a very slight chance of rain over the islands.

Different intensities of rain poured over scattered parts of the country, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Fujairah, and Ras Al Khaimah on Thursday morning. The unstable weather was due to a low pressure affecting Saudi Arabia on Wednesday that continued to move eastward towards the UAE on Thursday.

Dubai residents woke up to overcast skies Thursday morning and light to moderate rain on their commute to work. There was heavy rain reported in the Northern Emirates while moderate rain was recorded in the western part of the country or in Abu Dhabi.

Jebel Jais received heavy rainfall and the weather station there recorded the maximum rainfall at 33.2mm. Rain continued over the mountains until Thursday afternoon.

The forecaster said the Thursday morning rain is not uncommon in the UAE at this time of the year.

“This rain is usual in November. Pressure systems happen during this time and affect the country,” a forecaster from the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology told Gulf News.

The showers, however, didn’t last too long and the weekend is predicted to be windy and a bit dusty.

“On Friday, some low clouds will accumulate over the islands and over the sea that may be associated with light rain. But the chances [of rain] are weak and these can be just a few drops,” the forecaster said.

Forecasters warned the public from heading out to sea on Friday as the northwesterly wind will continue to blow into the country’s direction this weekend especially over the sea that will cause the Arabian Gulf to be rough to very rough while the Oman Sea will be rough at times.

The wind speed over the sea on Thursday reached a maximum of 80km/h seeing waves reaching 12 feet offshore.

Temperatures have dropped by 4 degrees Celsius to 6C in general compared to the previous days.
